Clean River Project
53,692 items of trash removed from the Bronx River since 2018
(as of Jan 5th, 2023)
This project addresses floatable trash, one of the three major water quality issues on the Bronx River. Volunteers participate in real science, through hands-on experiences. The information we collect from trash found aids our mission to seek out the sources of trash-producing companies and prevent it from entering the river in the first place. Our project engages volunteers by promoting outreach to local businesses whose products end up in and along the river; we aim to bring awareness around the harm to our waterways caused by non-biodegradable products. Volunteers wear waders in the river and help us count bottles, cans, straws, and additional waste caught in our trash boom.
You can make a difference! Please dispose of your trash properly & consider refusing the single use item in the first place!
